A Message from the Other Side

No one knows what truly lies on the other side of life. Will there be the pearly gates amongst the clouds and blonde angels playing soothing harp music much like you would find in any corporate buildings elevator? Or does the spirit continue to live on in the real world watching over those it loved most, steering them in the path of righteousness and all that is good? Or is there something else, something better, and something that we humans have not yet dreamt up to tempt us to go towards the light? No one truly knows.

What I am certain of though, is that even if we do transcend into a spiritual world after life, we wouldn’t choose to speak to “spiritualists” or “mediums” or “liars”, whatever is the most appropriate term for them in this modern age. I know this because if we met these people today, in the streets, in real life, we wouldn’t choose to speak to them and rely on them to pass on messages to our loved ones. No, we have Swiss-army phones for that purpose and other electronic means to ensure we can tell anyone anything without looking them directly in the eyes, providing a good clear link has been established first of course.

I found it somewhat astonishing then, when I dropped a party of people off at the Town Hall to see a spiritualist, the amount of people who were queuing with their tickets to hear some rather open and non-specific lies for a good few hours. One thing I did notice was that the majority of the crowd appeared to be of the female persuasion – which made me wonder, do spirits only pass messages on to their female loved ones?

One of those in my party to join the queue of people was my nanna, who I’ve always thought of as a rational lady up until this point, full of good advice and the wisdom of life. But, it later turned out she was the one who’d organised the whole thing – and here’s why. Whilst she was out sunning herself in the Outback of Australia, it emerged that one of my extended relations was friends with this particular spiritualist they went to see. The medium was talking to one of my extended family, talking about a bracelet that had gone missing which belonged to a dearly departed – the spiritualist then dialled up her contact in the afterlife and the message came back that the bracelet had been safely tucked away in the house, in a drawer, in the bedroom, under some papers. When the family checked the drawers, they found the bracelet – coincidence or a direction from the dead? No one knows.

Before the show started, which I, as a male, didn’t attend, I probed my nanna’s belief system a little to see just how much she believed in the spiritual afterlife. This did not go down too well, as I was labelled “sarcastic”. However, I was offered proof of the afterlife. Amazed and ready to finally have my beliefs changed forever with undeniable proof, I was directed towards a cabinet, which contains a number of heirlooms and keepsakes collected over the decades. I peered into the cabinet as it was opened – finally evidence, undeniable – I was going to be famous. My nanna reached into the cabinet and carefully removed two bone china anniversary tea cups. These cups were real, physical proof – I saw the money flash before my eyes, I was going to uncover the afterlife, what an achievement! And then....nothing.

The proof, which I thought would finally make the X Files look like a real documentary, turned out to be that the two cups had cracked, by themselves, inside of the cabinet without anyone ever touching them in exactly the same place on both cups. I don’t know a lot about bone china – or for that matter why the spirits would crack two china cups – but the next piece of information might just reveal the real reason. The story and quote was thus... “You explain to me then, how two cups can just break on their own? I was stood here ironing right next to them and then they ‘crack’, without anyone being near to them”. Could it be that the hot iron had caused the cups to crack or the ‘evil cup-cracking spirits’? No one knows, but I knew my undeniable evidence and subsequent fame and enormous riches were all but gone.

If there’s a message any spirits reading this blog would like to relay to me, please leave a comment...as I shan’t be visiting any mediums or spiritualists or liars soon.
