Arise Sir Murray

I know this has been discussed in the past before, just around the time that legendary F1 commentator Murray Walker hung up his microphone for the very last time, and it never happened – he was never knighted.

I always wondered how he’d been overlooked in the Queen’s knighting ceremonies, after all, she must be aware of his work after giving him the MBE for his services to motorsport after fifty years. This week new-boy Lewis Hamilton has been given his own MBE for services to motorsport after only two years – surely there has been a clerical error somewhere at the palace?

No one has done more for motorsport in the UK than Murray Walker himself, and even next year at the age of 85, he will rejoin the newly created BBC Sport F1 team as a regular columnist to their website and online activity.

If that doesn’t earn him a knighthood next time around with the Queen, then justice has not been served. Murray Walker (MBE) makes Lewis Hamilton (MBE)’s services to motorsport look like a drive in the park in comparison with the veteran and uber-commentator legend.

If country won’t acknowledge Mr Walker, then you can be sure that Deadly Revelations will honour the man and in the eyes of this author, he will always be a “Sir” and of vast importance not only to British Motorsport, but to Motorsport across the world.

Arise Sir Murray Walker!
